Meet Jackie and Mick Parsons

We met and fell in love in, and with, Italy in the 1990s. Together we created Hedonistic Hiking back in 2007 and since then the company has gone from strength to strength. Our small group walking holidays are designed by us, researched by us and guided by us. Our hiking tours on both sides of the world combine our three great passions in life: outstanding walking, delicious food and fine wine.

Here in the northern hemisphere, after a long hot summer, harvest time has arrived for our crops of home-grown tomatoes. Delicious as they are straight from the vine, another way to enjoy them, and preserve them a little longer, is to ferment them.

Dodge the tourist pitfalls

Dodge the tourist pitfalls

Jackie’s most recent article for US online magazine Sixty & Me looks at the best ways of avoiding some of the tourist pitfalls in Italy. Thanks to Jackie and her wonderful staff for making our week in Piedmont luxurious, decadent, challenging enough with the hiking and lots of fun. The generosity from the loooong lunches and the Michelin star restaurants to the humble cup of coffee, everything was included. The organisation and attention to detail was incredible. There was plenty of culture, history and tastings galore - cheese, wine, local cuisine. We won’t hesitate to book again to enjoy other areas of Italy on such a local level. Fantastic!!

These hiking holidays give fascinating insights into the history, food and drink of a region, communicated with infectious enthusiasm and a lightness of touch by Jackie and Mick, who lead the tours and run the company. Sharing all this richness with a like-minded group of people is sheer joy. Hotels, restaurants and hikes are so carefully researched and chosen, and organisation is impeccable. This is our third trip with Hedonistic, and we can’t wait to go again.

Fantastic experience hiking with Jackie and Cinzia on the Tuscan Harvest tour! Wonderful vistas, perfectly paced with expert knowledge on the history, terrain, literature and wine! The journey ended on the highest possible note: a superb dinner at a two-star Michelin restaurant, an unforgettable finale to a week filled with joy, learning, and delicious indulgence. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone with a love of adventure, culture, and fine food and wine — especially those with a foodie curiosity for the good things in life!

We joined our fifth Hedonistic Hiking Tour in July for their first UK tour on the Derbyshire Peaks and Yorkshire Dales. Not only a great new location, but the quality of the whole “food, wine and walking” experience continues to be first class. Jackie and Mick continue to design their hikes, local guides and dining within their small group tours to provide a premium experience. It was great to have Will host this particular tour along with Jackie. Enjoyed the company of fellow hikers wishing for a similar quality tour, and we will be back soon.

Our Hedonistic Hiking experience in Slovenia and Friuli was over-the-top special and a trip none of us will ever forget! I invited 10 girlfriends from all parts of my life to join together who had various hiking abilities and were world travelers with high standards. Months later we are still talking about how much we loved every aspect of the tour and how bonded we all became. Mick and Anthony led us on mostly unmarked trails with gorgeous scenery, few other hikers, loads of wildflowers and Taylor served up the best homemade, healthy lunches with excellent local wine, cheese and treats. Each dinner was memorable, delicious and would have been served at a top restaurant in any large city (and worthy of a Michelin star or more). Mick organized fascinating side trips to wineries, historic sites and museums with top-notch private tour guides to enhance our experience, and his anecdotes throughout our trip added interesting context and color. Mick's years-long relationships with locals in the villages we visited provided exceptional experiences you could never duplicate on your own. Many of us avoid group tours -- but we cannot wait to sign up for another Hedonistic Hiking tour!

All our Hedonistic Hiking trips have been amazing from start to finish. We have hiked in uncrowded, beautiful mountains; stayed in really charming and authentic hotels; eaten delicious, regionally sourced food; and enjoyed many beautiful local wines. Our guides always provided us with the leadership, care and knowledge we needed to get the most from our experience and our fellow hedonists provided the companionship and friendship that makes for great memories. Highly, highly recommended.

What a great experience walking the Great Ocean Walk. A challenge with all the ups and downs of the terrain but satisfying in the knowledge of having completed it. It was made all the more enjoyable with the great food, wines, hospitality and guidance by Jackie and Mick. Although exhausted on a couple of days I do not regret it. Thank you Jackie, Mick and fellow walkers.

Mick and Jackie are just phenomenal. We've done two tours with them now (Basilicata and the Grampians) and they curate the perfect holiday of exploration, exercise and food / wine. We are happy to pay for their meticulous planning, off-the-beaten track itineraries, perfect hotel and restaurant selection and excellent company. We'll keep coming back...

This trip was amazing! We had the best time and the experiences exceeded our expectations, which were very high indeed. Cannot recommend this company high enough. Jackie and Mick are sensational guides and they looked after us magnificently. Hedonistic Hiking - it is the perfect name for the experience: a wonderful mix of glorious hiking and incredible food, wine and cultural experiences.

Jackie & Mick have created the most fabulous hiking experiences you could have with any of their hikes. I’ve now done 5 of their hikes and booking a 6th. You’re immersed in the local culture, food and wine and enjoying their local knowledge wherever you are. The hikes are fabulous and fun and challenging and If I could rate these hikes higher than 5 stars I would. Every detail is thought of and you don’t need to think, just walk and enjoy the view, the wine and food and is honestly my favourite thing to do with my holidays. A wonderful immersive experience.
