Hedonistic Hiking at the Telegraph’s offices in London
This week the UK’s Hedonistic Hiking team headed for the glitzy Telegraph building in London’s Victoria for a ‘Love Italy’ evening organised by ABTOI, the Association of British Travel Organisers to Italy. With over 65 Italian specialist members, ABTOI is the ‘must go to’ site for anyone looking for a holiday to Italy.
Co-hosted by Italy’s ENIT (Agenzia Nazionale del Turismo), the Telegraph and a handful of specialist Italian tour operators, including Hedonistic Hiking, the evening set out to showcase the best of Italy’s art, culture, food, drink and natural beauty. Presentations by Zonin Wines and Filippo Berio, producers of some of Italy’s top olive oils, did exactly that. Entertaining and informative, the talks gave everyone a fascinating insight into the culinary regional differences in Italy and the country’s all-consuming focus on seasonality and sourcing zero miles produce. By the end of the Filippo Berio presentation, much of the audience were fantasizing about Italian cheeses and bistecca alla Fiorentina, drizzled, of course, with olive oil!
The presentations were followed by a Q&A session with the five tour operators, hosted by the Telegraph’s Trisha Andres. Subjects covered included the question of supplements for single travellers and tracking down the best places to eat in Italy.
Delicious wines and fig and gorgonzola canapés set the tone for the rest of the evening which gave us plenty of opportunity to chat to the guests about what we love best about Italy - it’s food, wine and glorious landscapes!
