Itinerary

Day 1

The tour starts in Albury (NSW) at 10am. We offer pick-ups at the airport, train station or centrally located hotels. Drive 2hrs to Falls Creek Alpine Village on the Bogong High Plains. After a picnic lunch we enjoy an easy hike to discover some evocative and historic Cattlemen’s huts (9km/5.6 miles). After the hike we settle in to the luxurious Altezza 1570 apartments before a pre-dinner drink and dinner.

Day 2

Indulge in a delicious breakfast before a short drive takes us to the Bogong High Plains. We hike some of the lesser known trails of the High Plains, up to a magnificent viewpoint on Mount Cope and later passing the hideout of the mountain pigmy possum, enjoying expansive views to Mount Hotham. See beautiful flora and maybe glimpse the wild horses. Time to unwind before a delicious dinner matched to excellent local wines. (12.5km/7.7 miles)

Day 3

We leave Falls Creek and a scenic drive takes us to Dinner Plain. We pass the historic Blue Duck Inn on the pristine Mitta River and stop in the former gold-mining town of Omeo. When we reach the grazing lands of Cobungra we have our picnic by a pretty lake before walking to Dinner Plain Village where we stay in Rundells Alpine Lodge for two nights. (12.7km/7.9 miles)

Day 4

Indulge in a delicious breakfast at Rundells before we drive to Mount Hotham from where we walk the breathtaking Razorback Ridge towards Mount Feathertop, the second highest mountain in Victoria at 1922m. Enjoy unbroken views across the High Country. Relax with a delicious gourmet picnic – which we hike in for you - showcasing the wonderful regional produce. After lunch we return along the ridge and transfer back to Rundells. (19.5km/12.1 miles) Dinner this evening is a fabulous five-course Degustation Menu at Rundells Alpine Lodge.

Day 5

Depart after breakfast. Return to Albury for 12pm.

Extra Info

Walking:
Walking: There are 4 days of walking on the trip. We walk graded trails and rough tracks. This is some of the most challenging walking that we offer on our tours. Due to the inaccessibility of the area there is no van access en route. Both guides will accompany the group to provide extra support and to carry the lunch for you. On occasion, one guide will lead a less challenging alternative walk if required. Sturdy walking boots, with good ankle support, are essential. Walking poles are recommended, especially on steeper sections.

We have a Reading List of books set in the High Country which you may enjoy.
